Andrea Yates
I've been turning off the tv and the radio every time I hear the name
Andrea Yates, but not for the reasons you think. You probably think I'm one of these evil conservatives screaming for her blood because she killed her children, but I'm not. I am, in fact, pretty angry about those people who
are screaming for her blood, those people calling talk shows and saying she should be allowed to kill herself, she's no use to society, she's a monster. You people with your pitchforks and your torches and the rope, you had better pray you don't ever suffer from mental illness, and if you ever are so unlucky, you better pray people don't abandon you to your sickness the way Andrea was abandoned. You don't understand mental illness and you don't have any time for understanding it, you just want to exact your revenge and rid yourselves of the
unfit. People used to tell me I should go ahead and kill myself too, and my doctors pretty much abandoned me to my illness, too, but somehow, I don't know how, I was lucky and Andrea wasn't, I had a husband who was willing to take care of me, I made it, somehow, until I did find a doctor who listened to me. My heart goes out to poor Andrea, not least because it could have been me the peasants are calling the talk shows to damn to hell. You people make me ashamed to be a conservative.
